It’s Not the Destination | It’s the Ride
Welcome to
Rum Runner
Cycles
We don’t ride to get somewhere — we ride to live. Whether you’re just starting your journey, or you’ve already ridden a thousand miles in the wind, you need a mechanic who understands the grind and knows what it takes to keep pushing forward. At Rum Runner Cycles, we’re not just here to “fix” your bike; we’re here to make sure it’s ready to rip when you are ready to ride.
We’re more than just a shop — we’re a place where riders can come together, kick back, talk shop, and get their bikes prepped for the open road. Whether you’re from Wilmington, Winnabow, Leland, Jacksonville, Whiteville, Shallotte, or just passing thru, we’re here to ensure your bike runs as hard as you do. So when life throws you a curve, call us. And when we get you back on the road, lean into it, pick your line, and keep your weight on that outside peg.

Why Choose Us?
Riding a bike isn’t just about getting from point A to point B—it’s about adding life to your days, and your bike is an extension of you. At Rum Runner Cycles, we don’t just repair—we upgrade. Whether you're after custom accessories, better performance, or just need to make sure your bike’s running strong, we’ve got you covered. From stock cruisers to high-performance machines, there's not much we won’t work on. Our goal is simple: to keep your ride ready to do what it was built for—live, ride, and tear it up.

The Grease Monkey Who Lives for the Ride — Lead Mechanic, Rum Runner Cycles
"Kenny Bobby"
When he became a grease monkey...
Kenny Bobby has been a grease monkey for 27 years, turning wrenches and getting down to the gritty work of keeping motorcycles running strong. With Indian Master, Harley Master, Polaris Master, Slingshot Master, and Yamaha Gold Star certifications under his belt, Kenny Bobby has seen it all. He’s also a State of NC Vehicle Safety Inspector, which means when your bike’s in his hands, it’s as good as ready for the road.
When he got into it...
Kenny Bobby didn’t start out as a professional mechanic—he was just a guy who wanted to ride. "I couldn’t afford to go to a mechanic, so I started turning a wrench myself." That’s how he learned. Hands-on, DIY, driven by necessity. From there, it all clicked, and he found his true calling.
When he started riding...
He started riding at 11 years old. His dad wanted him to know how to fix his own bike, so he wouldn’t get stranded out there. That’s when Kenny Bobby first picked up a wrench, and the passion for riding—and wrenching—took root.
His first bike...
1976 Bultaco Pursang 250 – Red with White. It was a beast, and it started Kenny Bobby’s lifelong love affair with bikes.
What he rides now...
A 2019 Harley Road Glide Special – Black. Kenny Bobby’s bike is as tough and sleek as the work he puts into his craft.
His favorite place to ride...
Kenny Bobby’s all about the mountains—whether it’s Tennessee or any other mountain pass, that’s where he loves to get lost. "Towns and mountains; you can get lost on purpose and have a great time."
miles racked up...
Kenny Bobby doesn’t just work on bikes—he lives and breathes them. He’s always out riding, and he tests every bike he works on to make sure it’s road-ready. With over 20K miles a year, he’s putting in the miles and keeping his skills sharp every day.
The Cap'n is the founder and co-owner of Rum Runner Cycles. And he has a few stories to tell...
"Cap’n" *Will Mitchell
When he started riding...
The Cap’n has been hitting the road for 15 years, but the desire to ride street bikes has been there since the very beginning. He got his start after taking the Cape Fear MSF Safety Class, but the real game-changer happened during class... "MORE and I walked right into the Harley shop’s anniversary party AND walked out with a 2012 Sportster Custom". Yep, he bought his first bike without even having a license yet. Talk about living life on the edge.
His first bike...
2012 Sportster 1200 Custom – red, burgundy, and merlot. The bike that started it all.
What he rides now...
2022 Ultra Limited. He’s traded in his first love for a newer, bigger, and even more badass machine.
His favorite place to ride...
The Cap’n's heart lies in the mountains, with Maggie Valley being his absolute favorite spot to get lost in the ride. If you want to catch him, look for The Cap’n on Aces and Eights—his favorite road to get that perfect mix of thrill and serenity.
why he rides...
For The Cap’n, it’s all about the sensory experience. "Riding in the mountains is like a smooth-ass rollercoaster ride". The winding roads, the feeling of being one with the road and nature—the wind, the grit, the adventure of it all—that’s what fuels his passion. He says, “None of us mind the surprise.” To The Cap’n, it’s freedom—the freedom of the ride, the wind in your face, and the open road. But it’s also the people. The connection, the bond, and the camaraderie. “Skulls are a universal symbol on the road. It’s because everyone has one. We are all brothers out here. We’ve got each other’s back.”
miles racked up...
The Cap’n is not just about hitting the road once in a while—he rides 10K miles a year. That’s a serious passion.

"More" *Leslie Mitchell
When she started riding...
MORE has been riding for 14 years, but it wasn’t just the thrill of the open road that called to her—it was the need for control. "I’m a control freak—I wanted to press the brake when I wanted to press the brake." Once she got her hands on the handlebars, there was no looking back. She also found a sense of community, joining the HOG local chapter, where she met plenty of other women riders who became a source of inspiration and camaraderie.
her first bike...
Sportster 883 100th Anniversary Edition – gunmetal blue. A bike with character, just like MORE.
what she rides now...
A stunning 2020 Tahitian Teal Street Glide. The color says it all—classy, bold, and ready to cruise.
her favorite place to ride...
It’s all about the ride up the coast from Wilmington, NC to Bar Harbor, ME. A bucket-list trip that took her through some of the most beautiful stretches of road on the East Coast. The best part of that journey? 17 Coast Highway and Cadillac Mountain. "It’s not just about the ride—it’s about the experience".
why she rides...
For MORE, riding is about the challenge and the peace of mind that comes with it. "There is no better way to connect yourself to nature and God than on a motorcycle." It’s NOT just the destination—it’s the freedom, the moments of reflection, and the soul-deep connection with the road. Along her travels, she’s taken in incredible views of Mount Washington and the Kancamagus Highway through the New Hampshire White Mountain National Forest, stopping for a bit, some off-road fun and to swap a story or two at places like Bentley's Saloon, a premier biker destination in Arundel, ME. MORE said, “Riding is all about finding moments of peace in the chaos of life”.
miles racked up...
MORE doesn’t just ride—she lives it. She puts in 8K miles a year, soaking in every moment on the road.
if it rides, we wrench
